Each of us has political power, but when we use our power together, we’re unstoppable. All of our rights are on the chopping block, but why can’t all our aspirations for our community be on the table too?

ABOUT Catherine coll

Catherine Coll is a Delco native who graduated from Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill. Catherine’s first IT job was at NASA Goddard, then she subsequently went to NOAA to support our nation’s weather and climate supercomputers, also earning a Masters of Information Management from University of Maryland at College Park. Catherine left the federal government in 2016 and returned to her hometown of Lansdowne where she got involved in the local Democratic committee. Catherine remembered the Democratic victories in Lansdowne in the 1990’s and wanted to learn about organizing from some of the Lansdowne Democrats who were still involved.

Catherine has served on Lansdowne’s committee as Vice Chair of Communications and also as an editor and writer for the Lansdowne Leader. She also got involved in activism, working on campaigns for gender justice, immigrant rights, and police accountability. She is particularly proud of her work on a campaign to release a young Guatemalan immigrant from an ICE detention hold. Catherine is currently involved with Delco Indivisible.

Catherine is a progressive Democrat and owns a signed copy of Elizabeth Warren’s book All Your Worth. She believes that in order for Democrats to win statewide and national elections, the Democratic party must serve all of its coalitions with concrete results, including progressives. Catherine seeks to promote progressive issues and increase Democratic unity as a State Committee member.

Catherine is also an artist who works mainly in oils and has shown paintings at Lansdowne’s 20/20 gallery.

Everything happening to us during this moment has happened before, and everything that scares us can be overcome. It is our duty to past generations and our collective future to push forward.

Dear Democratic Committee Member:

To briefly introduce myself - I've been active in the Lansdowne Democratic Committee since 2017, I've edited our committee publication, Lansdowne Leader, and served as Vice Chair of Communications. I'm an IT professional, my first IT job was at NASA Goddard and subsequently worked in the federal government for many years supporting NOAA's weather and climate supercomputing systems.

I'm seeking the endorsement of the Delco Democratic Party for the State Committee of PA. The most fundamental reason I engage in committee work is to preserve democracy and to have a positive hand in the future of the Democratic party. I believe that committee work is the most essential work of democracy, keeping the party in touch with the voters on a house by house, neighborhood level. It's also an opportunity to lead from our values and keep this party in alignment with everything that is important to our diverse coalitions.

I'm an activist and have participated in campaigns for gender justice, immigrant rights, and police accountability. Lately I’ve been out with Indivisible, I'm particularly interested in the protests of Citizen's Bank's involvement with ICE. In activism I prioritize achievable goals that have a direct positive impact on people’s lives.

I am a progressive Democrat and I want to make sure progressive values are represented at the state party level. Progressives are numerous enough to ensure our victory in statewide and nationwide elections but as with all of the coalitions of the Democratic party, we need to deliver concrete results on the issues that matter if we want to get and keep those votes. I want to do my part to ensure Democrat victory locally and statewide, by ensuring that progressives are engaged and represented. I also want to promote communication and unity amongst the coalitions that make up the Democratic Party. I am passionately motivated to work for Democratic victory and a Blue Pennsylvania. Please endorse me on the 17th!

PLATFORM

  • I have spent much of my time as a political organizer fighting for the end to oppression faced by women and femmes. This oppression is felt in greater scale by Black and brown women, and we must work for reforms like maternal health, workplace protections, and the interruption of gender-based violence in all of its forms. We also must recognize that the violence being perpetrated against immigrants in our community is a gender justice issue. Fighting for reproductive rights in one space and failing to challenge what ICE is doing with the same energy is a failure to all women and all who experience gender-based oppression.

  • I am a proud progressive, and I will continue to fight for the policies that will help the most people to live fulfilling lives. As a proud former delegate for Elizabeth Warren, I will always strive to learn about how policies work in detail and think about ways to both communicate those details and actually learn from the lived experiences of those affected most by policy decisions.

  • We are all living through the end result of thinking that electing any person from the “blue team” is good enough. Millions of eligible voters felt left out of our electoral process because of not only how issues are prioritized and discussed, but also because of the failure of Democrats to simply raise the standard for those seeking the privilege of elected office. Our strategy cannot be to throw trans people or immigrants under the bus. These groups of folks are facing the same repercussions that we are living through with the Dobbs decision after decades of Democratic candidates avoiding any conversation about abortion rights. I am never afraid of talking about things, and if a candidate or elected official has broken the public trust, they have to go. We have far too much important work to do to waste time or harm our collective work.
